AMFIE: Supporting retirement planning for today’s international workforce

Today’s international organizations rely on an increasingly diverse and mobile workforce. Alongside permanent staff, consultants and other non-staff professionals now play an essential role in delivering organizations’ mandates. While this evolution brings greater flexibility, it also creates new challenges: many consultants do not have access to a pension scheme and must take responsibility for building their own retirement savings. In this context, ensuring long-term financial security has become an increasingly important issue for both individuals and the organizations that work with them.

Recognizing this evolving reality, AMFIE (a financial cooperative based in Luxembourg) has developed the Provident Savings Plan (PEP), a retirement solution specifically designed for professionals working in international organizations.

The PEP is fully portable, allowing members to continue building their retirement savings throughout an international career, even when changing organizations or countries. Under certain conditions, contributions may continue after leaving an intergovernmental organization, making the plan well suited to today’s increasingly flexible career paths. Members can contribute regularly or occasionally, choose between a guaranteed-capital option and a range of investment funds based on their preferences, and adjust their investment strategy over time.

From the age of 60, members can choose to receive their retirement savings as a monthly pension or a lump sum. The plan also allows members to designate beneficiaries in the event of death and may offer tax advantages depending on the member’s country of tax residence.

As international organizations continue to diversify their workforce, retirement planning deserves to become part of the broader conversation on employment conditions and talent sustainability. Innovative and portable solutions such as AMFIE’s Provident Savings Plan can help fill an important gap for professionals whose careers no longer follow traditional employment patterns.
